Last Saturday my parents, my aunt, and I spent the afternoon in downtown Fairhope.  I parked surprisingly close to Mary Ann’s, where we were eating lunch, and unloaded the kids into their double-stroller.  It was a busy Saturday in downtown as there was an art festival, book signings, music…ect…

I strolled the babies along the sidewalk passing a lady who gave me that familiar look that said…”Bless your heart, darlin, I’ve been there…Yours are so cute…But would not trade places with you for a second!…” Complete with a little giggle as she walked past me…

As we finally got into Mary Ann’s and settled at a table… and the ordeal that actually was, I was reminded why I NEVER GET OUT…But then quickly realized why I NEED TO!!!…We saw people we love and know…There was really good music playing somewhere outside…There were artists and authors talking to us…Mom bought his book…There were people laughing and talking over really. good. deli food…There were all kinds of funky/quirky people walking around…It was really great soul stuff…ya know?

As I was heading back home I just felt so thankful to be in Fairhope again.  Growing up in Fairhope was not always fun and there are plenty of things I wish weren’t so about it…(sometimes people in cities like ours can be a tad snobby…maybe a lot snobby)…I’ve witnessed it….But I’ve also witnessed some of the truest, loveliest people I’ve ever known.  There are memories all over the place…It’s home!

I can’t help but think about how that is such a tiny glimpse of how Heaven will be…Loads of lovable people, interesting people, THE Person, rich culture, good food, amazing music, endless adventure and fun, all enveloped in worshipping Him…

It will be unbelievable.

Loving Fairhope you guys!

Loving You Darlin!!! 🙂

A Really, Really Great Book

A friend of mine named Brandi told me the other day to get this book…that it was amazing…and yeah, I read it in about 3 days…

Passionate Housewives Desperate for God is truly a life-changing book.  The authors talk about what it really means to be a keeper at home and they dispel all of the myths and stereotypes surrounding the controversial subject…and they do it brilliantly!!…

I remember the early days of being a mom with Maris…and I specifically remember being asked…”So, what do you do?”  And kind of sheepishly I said, “I’m a stay at home mom.”….like it was something to be ashamed of!…like I just stay at home with my daughter….

I also remember being at an art gallery in downtown Fairhope and drooling over these gorgeous paintings and reading the little biography of this prestigious and talented artist who travels all over the world with his art…and made lots of money doing it…

I got in the car and cried the whole way home.  I told God that I could do that!!!!…I could paint like that and travel and make money for our family…and I asked him to help me with my art and creativity…to make it great…(to make me great, really)…I thought that my talents were too good to just waste away while I stayed home with my girl…

Thank God that He knows better than we do…I would be miserable if that was my life right now…

I am learning so much about what it means to be a mom and a wife…about this Holy calling…this honor it is to be entrusted with these little lives…

I sit here typing completely exhausted over the kind of non-stop day I’ve had…this parenting thing is HARD…this submissive wife thing is HARD…this housemom to five boys thing is HARD

But, praise be to God, because he is working through this wretch of a woman and making me into something beautiful in the midst of the hard stuff…and He is helping me see that there isn’t a greater calling on earth than to be a mother who serves her family…and her Lord.

Have a blessed week!!! Much Love!!…Go get that book!!!

A Glorious Book List

It was supposed to snow this morning in South Alabama.  Schools were closed.  We wake up this morning and what do you know…no snow.

So, a lot of blogs I read post a book list every now and then showing what they are currently reading….I thought I would do the same!  I enjoy seeing what others are reading and a lot of times I will come across a great book that way.  Oh, and speaking of blogs, I found this one blog the other day that is simply phenomenal.  It is on my blog roll.  The blog site is www.proverbs14verse1.blogspot.com.  If you are a young mother, I think it will especially speak to you, although I think God is speaking through this woman to women of every age.  She talks a great deal about motherhood, marriage, modesty, taking care of our homes, homeschooling, teaching our daughters to be feminine and our sons to be warriors.  I really cant say enough about it, so check it out!!

Ok…here is the book list…

So Long Insecurity by Beth Moore:  I have already begun this book and I think it is going to change womens lives everywhere!  We all, most of us rather, struggle with the issue of insecurity and I feel as if, as I read this book, God is peeling back the layers and wanting to dig out all of the crap…the self-doubt…the lies…and all the insecurity that goes along with being a female in the world we live in.  Please! Please! Please go get this book!

Curl Talk by Ouidad: Ok..so I have issues with my hair these days. It either looks wild and messy…or if I straighten it…it looks flat and just wrong.  This book has been so helpful on how to deal with curly/wavy hair.  It immediatley gives you tips on how to manage and make your curly hair “perform” as she says it.  For example: Never, ever, do the wet hair wrapped in the turban towel thingy! Not good…

Sex God by Rob Bell:  I have not read any of Rob Bells books before.  I have heard mixed reviews on his writing and theology.  I met an amazing girl at the Womens Center the other day who is a fan and we had a great conversation about this book so I thought I would give ole Rob a try.  From what I understand, he dives into the ways in which we as sexual human beings created in the image of God…reflect the very real and sexual nature or characteristics of God and how the spiritual and sexual meet. It sounds fascinating. And that might be a totally “off” description…so after I finish the book…I will let you know what I gleaned from it.

Vintage Church by Mark Driscoll: I really like Mark Driscoll.  I have not read this one yet but I cannot wait!! Being that, I’ve been dealing a lot with church and what that should look like…what it means…I thought this would be helpful.  He is very honest and real and hopefully closes the gap a little between the way the church functioned in Acts and the New Testament…and how to incorporate that into a culture that really needs Christ.

Bobbi Brown Make Up Manual:  I love make up! And Bobbi Brown…so there ya go…

Crazy Love by Francis Chan:  Heard so many great things about this one.  God’s love is so beautiful and wild and unfathomable and crazy!!! I want to fathom it, understand it, and rest in it so much more than I do right now.

So…theres the list!!!! I hope your weekend is spledid!!!! We are going to Tampa to see my best friend in the whole world, Darla!! It has been too long! Blessings!
