This Sweet Home…

Come on in…

And my favorite room in the whole house…

The Bathroom!

It is spacious and far away from little ones…

Please forgive me for taking so long to blog…The last two weeks have been exciting but extremely stressful…

Our new home is so wonderful…I wake up every morning kind of in shock and pinching myself that we are actually in a house this pretty and a neighborhood this sweet…and so close to Walmart :)…

I still have so much work to do…and it is so hard getting unpacked and things in their places when it seems like everytime I start to do something, someone needs juice or a hug or a spanking…

So, I am resolved to take it one day at a time and if our house is a mess….then it is a mess…!

I am really trying to learn the skill and discipline of playing with my kids and not being so obsessed with how my house looks…It is really hard to do!…

I hope you are doing fantastic and having a great week!

I will post more pics soon! I am currently working on the bedrooms…

Love to You!!!

Home Decor Inspiration

So I’ve been looking through magazines, searching the internet, trying to find inspiration…trying to find ideas that fit in with the way I want our home to look…

I am beyond engulfed in the task before me…I know it is just decorating a home…but you have to understand…home decorating is one of those things with me that I become completley obsessed with…when I was little I would at least once a month rearrange my room and repaint my room it seemed like once a year…aint that right momma!…it is a love…and I am honestly a little bit scared…

It’s been almost 2 years and 2 babies ago since I have lived in a home I could call my own and do whatever the heck I wanted to with…so I am easing into it with excitement and uneasiness at the same time…if that makes sense…

I love homes that don’t look like they try to hard…but homes that are warm…that feel lived in…homes where you would not be afraid to spill something or put your feet on the couch or lay on the floor…Homes where there are books everywhere and an atmosphere where you could curl up with a book and take a nap…

In terms of Home Decor…I am a maximalist…I love stuff everywhere…not necessarily cluttered and messy…just lots and lots of art/books/fabric/patterns/pillows/colors…

So the pictures above are kind of what I’ve gathered as my faves….everything I love about rooms in 5 or 6 photos…

I hope to record on the blog my progress as I go…

Will be posting pics soon of the bare bones!

Much Love to You!!

Dream Home

This is a description of a home visited to by Peter Marshall, former chaplain of the Senate…a quote I got from the exceptional book, Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney…

“I was priveleged, in the spring, to visit in a home that was to me–and I am sure to the occupants–a little bit of Heaven.  There was beauty there.  There was a keen appreciation of the finer things of life, and an atmosphere in which it was impossible to keep from thinking of God. The room was bright and white and clean, as well as cozy.  There were many windows.  Flowers were blooming in pots and vases, adding their fragrance and beauty.  Books lined one wall–good books- -inspiring and instructive–good books–good friends.  Three bird cages hung in the brightness and color of this beautiful sanctuary, and the songsters voiced their appreciation by singing as if their little throats could burst.  Nature’s music, nature’s beauty–nature’s peace….It seemed to me a kind of Paradise that had wandered down, an enchanted oasis–home.”

What a privilege as a homemaker, mother, and wife…that we get to create such sanctuaries in our homes…

Mine doesn’t quite look like that right now…but it is something I continually strive to create…the atmosphere as well as the decor…

I hope your week is off to a great start!!!

A Nursery and a Boy I Love

I love home decorating and I especially love a good challenge…It was a big challenge to decorate our little apartment being that it is so tiny…but I enjoyed it and I’ve come to really like the coziness of much smaller living spaces as opposed to a larger home…

(My dream home is a tiny little cottage with yes, a white little fence outside, with little flower boxes on the window sills and that beautiful vine plant that grows up on the outside of homes…dont know the name of it…my dad would…he has THE greenest thumb ever…he got it from my sweet maw maw who is having a ball gardening up in Heaven right now!)

Anyways, Davis’ room was a challenge because he is a boy.  As his room evolved into what it is now…I kept wanting to put vases of pink peonies somewhere…ANYWHERE…it needed some pink or red!…but I kept telling myself…”Lauren, get a hold of yourself!! He is a BOY!!! Boys dont like flowers!”…Not like he’s aware of anything in his room right now…

So, I got a hold of myself and I normally dont like “theme” rooms…but his surely developed into a calm, serene, nautical-“themed” room…and I LOVE it!!!

Remember…this was the inspiration several months before the little butterball was born…

And this is how I implemented it…

My precious mother-in-law doesn’t like the once dead/now stuffed frogs as a part of his room decor…and yes, it is strange…but I like strange…:)

I got this 100 lb. sailor man at my favorite thrift store, Habitat Re-Store, right down the road on Hwy 59 for like 20 dollars…He was brown and rusty, until I decided to paint him in this sea/moldy/green color…its a little too bright…he needs to be outside in a good rain storm to look a bit more weathered…( I am not crazy 🙂 )…

By far, the best part about this nursery…the sweetest part…the most delectable part…is this little fella…

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!! Much love to you! Go Foley Lions!!!

Naming your Design Style

So, I am a home decor weirdo…and I just recently bought a new design book called The Well Dressed Home by Annette Tatum, and I devoured it in a matter of minutes. But what I loved so much about it and my Domino book is that it helps you figure out your design style by coming up with words you think describe what you love about decor and then put the top two together…

Words like Modern

Romantic

Classic

Couture

Bohemian

Vintage

Casual

and Retro

So, from these styles you choose two you identify with most and put them together…like Modern Classic, or Couture Resort, or Bohemian Vintage…ect. Fun, right!!!?

So, mine is Romantic Vintage

I also love this…

This is called a beautiful mess 🙂

What is your design style?

I hope you have a very special Fathers Day weekend!

So, I have a major dilemma.

I dont know how to decorate for a boy.

I love decorating. I love putting colors together and designing each room to have its own “feel.”  Maris’ room is really beginning to come together. Its pretty with lots of dusty pinks, corals, and hints of fuchsia. I want to get a large dark green area rug remnant that I have, surged for the center.  Its coming together nicely.

Then I think about baby boys’ room.  I can’t do the oh so popular blue and brown.  Nothing against blue and brown fans…I just can’t stand the color brown.

I look on the internet quite often for ideas and what do I find?…blue and brown…blue and brown polka dots…blue and brown stripes…blue and brown giraffes…I cant escape blue…and brown. Or green…and brown for that matter…

So, for right now, this is what I’m leaning toward…I caved for a blue…this is (maybe) where I am heading visually…

Lots of white…ivorys…and this gorgeous deep ocean blue color…this particular blue is so breathtaking to me…with spuratic hints of gold and tan.  No geometric patterns.  Just simple white crib bedding. This particular room is ultra feminine but the colors are what I love and what gives direction and a little bit of a vision…and hopefully I can make it look strong and more masculine.

We shall see.

I’ll keep you posted on the progress.

Any advice whatsoever is welcome!!
